The Ultimates Ultimate Collection Mark Millar Bryan Hitch Books Reviews

  • It's the most realistic interpretation of the AVENGERS as actual human beings in both behavior and art as you will ever get. Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch laid the ground work that really allowed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to exist. This goes into even darker and grittier areas than the movies will ever dare to tread and in my opinion is the definitive depiction of Captain America as the ultimate American cowboy and introduces us to the first iteration of Tony Stark as the hedonistic wise ass billionaire that Robert Downy Jr would soon embody on screen. While there have always been enjoyable stories featuring these characters they were never, until this series, presented with such realistic character traits. Captain America was largely a milquetoast, boy scout. Bruce Banner was a dedicated and brilliant scientist but a generic wall flower. And the most interesting thing about Tony Stark was his bout with alcoholism in the 80's.

Millar and Hitch presented the first real, real world interpretation of these character types and told a story that kept escalating and kept you wondering what might be real and what might not.
  • The best version and most realistic of the Avengers.
  • This was a christmas gift for my husband. He loved it.
  • Awesome,in my opinion one of the best avengers stories ever made even if its not really an avengers storie,Millar its not one of my favorite writers but its impossible not to enjoy the epicness of The Ultimates
  • A new take on the traditional super hero story. Different, but enthralling.
  • Great collection. This series is so well drawn and written. Millar as usual did a great job!
  • This tpb is simply amazing. If you love the Avengers movie from 2012, get this Trade Paper-Back.
  • This rates as one of my favorite comic collections of all time. The first issue is one of my favorite Captain America stories and shows the dedication and bravery he symbolizes to the rest of the Marvel universe, mainstream or ultimate.
